I’m looking to design a built in entertainment center for my family room. Does anyone know of a IPad app that can be used to make a basic grid drawing.

I Googled “CAD app for iPad” and came up with 4, costing from $50 to $75 Plus one that wanted a subscription to use over the internet.

I mostly build using purchased plans or restore furniture so I’m looking for suggestions on how to make a simple (one time) grid drawing that I can explore different layouts for this entertainment center.

I’m not aware of one, but I certainly would not want to do something like that on my iPad!

Cheers,
Brad

Drawing on the iPad is pretty easy with a smart stylus and good software. There are several that I’ve used (I always grab the free-app-of-the-day offerings). Concepts is a high-end app with a significant learning curve, but is really powerful. It’s used by architects and design professionals.

TouchDraw is probably the most CAD like. You can do scale drawings, dimension lines, etc. Pretty easy to learn, and there is a Mac version available too that syncs with iCloud. The iPad version is $9.

Here’s an old drawing I did for a shed frame a while back.

Thanks Rich,
Great suggestion. Touch Draw was Perfect for my needs. I’ve been contemplating this project for some time (knew what I wanted) and was able to complete the whole process during the Steelers/Patriots game.

I’m glad it worked for you. Think of what you can accomplish between now and the Super Bowl :)
