Topic tags/keywords: resource tip jig question drill press

Hey guys, I got a new delta mortise attachment at a stoop sale , and we’ll may be backwards but now I need a drill press to attach IT TO … ha , I do things like this sometimes just look at my wood work , been having a lot of fun making joinery by hand , been building a huge standing tool cabinet of walnut and elm for two months now (having a lot of fun with it ) ... Also got a clifton shoulder plane for 90 bucks ….sweeeeeet , it’s my first shoulder plane and I’m in love … So anyways how about it ??? Whats your favorite or best advice on medium priced drill press , never bought one before… Thank you , wish you all the best …Patrick

Check out the reviews section for some drill presses.
There are a lot there.

check the diameter of the top to see what sized shaft you need. I like Delta, steel city and Grizzly when it comes to drill presses

Ditto what motthunter posted but I tend to be partial to Deltas (I am on my second one now).

What ever you pick, make sure it has at least 1 HP, other wise it’ll bog down on you. I have a 10 year old, 1HP craftsman that I use as a dedicated mortiser.

My son and I both have this drill press http://www.grizzly.com/products/12-Speed-Heavy-Duty-14-Floor-Drill-Press/G7944 and they are great and highly rated in several magazine tests. Just make sure the mortiser has the correct “quill size” , where the mortiser clamps to the drill, as what ever drill press.

Two thing to look for are, quill size and spindle travel. I think delta and steel city have the longest travel.
