I just posted a picture in the comment section of someones project using photobucket. The picture is huge. I searched and found pictures should be sized 640 px wide. Where would I make the change to the pixel size?
I originally had the pictue on my computers hard drive, windows 7. Imported it to photobucket. I’ve looked but cannot see where to do that.
Thank you in advance.

When your uploading to photobucket you can set the picture size so no matter what size the original is the uploaded one will be 640×480, or whatever you choose it to be. Click on the set upload preferences link near the bottom of the upload banner. 640×480 is the max size that works for embedding pictures into the body of a posting or comment. You can use larger pics when uploading to Lumberjock project gallerys.

Dave, thank you. I was trying to show a picture of a medium size apizza and the original picture viewed as a extra large. What I found was I have to size the pictue when I import to photobucket, correct? At the photobucket banner at the bottom of this post I do not see a option to size pictures. I did change the settings in photobucket so everything I import now is the correct size to embed in a post. This picture is smaller than 640×480 as a test. One of my other passions is pizza. Originally from Waterbury CT I grew up on, IMO, the best. Every summer when we head east for a visit I make sure I go to Vitos in Wolcott, Vinneys and Bocco’s. I think Baccos is closed and Mario opened a place in Watertown. Then of course there is Our Lady of St Pepe’s in New Haven. Then my other passion is beer….ok enough. I sure do miss the coffee lounge. Thanks again for you help. This truly is a geat site.

Ok, here’s another question. After resizing the photo’s I went back to the original post to see if anyone commented on or had information on how to properly size a picture. To my supprise the picture was resized to 320×240. So I went to photobucket and deleted the picture, changed the settings to 640×480, imported the picture again, and went to the original post, again. The picture is now posted as 640×480. Thats wild. How does it change the size of a picture after its been posted?

I believe the LJ post uses the URL of the picture from your Photobucket account. When LJs publishes the post it automatically downloads the picture from your Photobucket account in real time.

FWIW, I have my own domain and find I have to devote a page to images that I only use on sites like LJs. That way the picture is always downloadable. You may have noticed when searching LJs that sometimes pictures/images are no longer available, and that is because those outside websites/Photobucket accounts were deleted at some point in the past (people move on, die, change providers/domains, etc.)

Perhaps you prefer to use PhotoBucket. I got rid of it NOT because I couldn’t Re-Size easily but LJ’s for a while now, allows you to post pictures in ANY Forum or Blog directly from your Computer.

I also have Windows 7 UGHHH!. Anyway, all you have to do is click on “img” the Brown Rectangle at the left of the “Header”, above what you are typing. It opens a small window as follows… 1. A “Browse” button to get the Picture from your Computer. After you’ve done that…2. Click on “Insert this image”. It does that in an amazon code at the top of your page. IF you don’t want it there do a “Cut & Paste” and put it wherever you want in your comments.

AS far as size goes I THINK 600/700 pixels wide is the Max for here.Your Pizza above is 640Wx480H. I also think it will automatically downsize it if it’s to big. I usually use somewhere around 350 to 500 pixels wide. I believe it also must be a “jpg” “jpeg” format .not a BMP or other.

It’s also fast! I’ll grab a Picture of something and see.

Okay! I grabbed from My “Aircraft” File one of my Favourite Planes an F4U Corsair. The Original Picture was 1280×1024. I made 2 fast Copies, popped them into a Pic Editor one by one. Downsized them, and Sharpened them a little. Large one is 500×400. Smaller one is 300×240. They Downloaded at the top and as I said I did a Cut & Paste and put them at the bottom. That ALL took about 6/8 Minutes.
