Topic tags/keywords: question maple finishing

Ever since I saw the article on dyeing figured maple in Fine Woodworking 196i’ve wanted to make a tiger out of maple and dye it so it looks like it has stripes and it brings out the natural beauty in the wood instead of just painting it. so my questions are does any one have any advice on dyeing maple and how can i tell if a board of Maple is figured or see how it will come out when dyed?

If you have a piece of curly or figured maple you know it.

As to how you bring out the figure in finishing, take a looks at my Boxs of Drawers in my projects.
I explain how I did it there.
