Topic tags/keywords: question clamp

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I am fairly new. Does anyone have an opinion on Peachtree woodworking parallel jaw clamps? They seem like a good price, but I am a firm believer in “you get what you pay for”, so the price makes me wonder about the quality.

I have never heard of them, so can’t compare. I have Bessey and Gross Stabil.

I agree with you, you get what you pay for… :)

I saw them at last year’s woodworking show in ATL. They look almost exactly like the old style Bessey K-1s. I probably couldn’t tell either of the two apart, visually. I have no idea about performance or durability. I would also like to hear if anyone has used them.

I bought some Irwin clamps from Rockler a while back. A bunch of them actually. They worked ok and I didn’t have much of a reference. They recently had the Bessey Revo ones on sale and I wish I would have known what I was missing out on. It is amazing the difference. This doesn’t answer your question but I would just stick with Bessey clamps you have. If you have the cheaper Bessey’s then give the Revos a try or spend the money on the Jet clamps. The extra couple dollars you will spend on something you will likely never have to replace is worth it.

I bought six 24” parallel clamps from Peachtree about 3 years ago … use them all of the time, and haven’t had a problem.

I also have a set of Jet 24” clamps … IMHO, the Jet clamps are a better engineered product, but they cost a good deal more than the Peachtrees.

I have a 24’ Jorgi clamp that ticks me off all the time. The darn thing slams down when you least expect it (or at this point I have come to expect it) and if it hits your hand you’re in for a world of hurt. I recently bought a pair of 24” Jet parallel clamps. I’m in heaven when I use them. Why can’t all clamps be like these? I’ll be saving my pennies to buy more Jet parallel clamps, I can’t say enough good things about them.

Can you provide a link? I was just on their website and don’t see any parallel clamps made by them. I see they sell others, like bessey and jet but no house brand….

Sorry about that … go to http://www.ptreeusa.com/barClamps.htm and scroll down about 3/4’s of the way … you’ll see the Peachtree Parallel Jaw Clamps listed there.

Thanks Gerry, I hadn’t seen them before. I think it would be worth trying a couple since they are $10+ less than the Bessey. Maybe they will work and do the job you need them for.

I bought quite a few of the original K clamps (there wasn’t anything else like them at the time), recently purchased a few of the Revo, and they are great as well.

Yeah, Thanks Gerry. To me, they look to be the same as woodcrafts clamps, which incidentally are the same as what harbor freight used to carry. The only difference looks to be the handles. I have some older harbor freight ones and they work fine, but the handles are just like the woodcraft ones and they really aren’t that nice, or comfortable. However, FWW did a review of parallel clamps a few years ago and the HF ones tested the highest in clamp pressure, if that matters to you.

I’d say they are worth a try. I have a bunch of Jet ones next to my HF ones and always grab the jet first, mainly because of the comfort of the grips. My HF ones still work perfectly fine and do exactly as they are told :). They are a bit more fussy though to get locked on the bar as the jet have a trigger. These (if like the HF) you gotta lift the handle and slide on the bar and sometimes it’s hard to lock when you try to clamp. Once you get the technique down, there’s no problem after that.

I feel the same way with Bessey vrs. Jet clamps, Bessey are a bitch to setup, tighten & loosen…
Sorry but BESSEY’S are has beens, use to be’s…
You want the best Parallel Clamp out there now, go with JET…

Grab them when they go on sale…
