I have a spare Stanley #4 that i’m not using. I don’t currently have a low angle block plane and would like to trade for one. I’d be willing to trade straight across for a decent low angle block plane with adjustable mouth.

Let me know what you have. You can email me at lucaselef AT gmail .com

That’s a very nice No 4 and with the deal you are proposing, you are going to make someone quite happy if they trade you.

I would suggest finding a 118 or a craftsman 3732, either one shouldn’t cost very much and then hang on to your No 4.

I’m not one to keep extra tools or supplies around. I appreciate having only what i need to do the job and getting rid of the rest. It helps me stay on top of maintenance and keeps the work area clutter free.

I have a low angle stanley 60 1/2 with adj mouth. I know it is missing the swing lever that opens or closes the mouth. I have not messed with the plane since I traded for it so don’t know much more to tell you about it. Looks good to me. Maybe you can make use of it. I will gift it to you so no need to worry about your plane. Send me a PM letting me know if you want it and if so, where do I ship it. If nothing else, maybe it will do until you find one you like better.

Heck of a nice offer there.

Don’t worry about the mouth adjusting knob… It is a set it and forget it adjustment… there is very little reason to change the mouth opening in practice.

Thumbs-up to Blaster for being a decent guy.

I hunted for a while through flea markets and consignment stores for that very plane. Then one day my littlest boy biked home with one in his hand: nice lady around the block was clearing out her dead husband’s tools and thought the kid with a brush cut might like having a tool as a toy.

Blaster hooked me up with a block plane, so i still have the #4 up for trade. I don’t have a dovetail saw, so i’d be willing to trade for one of those. Or if you have anything else you’d like to trade for, just let me know!

Have your say...
