Like finding a pair of jeans to wear I like to have my pick of lumber in my hand and not order it online… But alas.

I need some exotics for my Growing CROSS-HEART project. Normally like when iL ives in Austin Texas I would go to a place and look samples over and pick a few.

I do not have that luxury now. I am thinking of ordering a handful of exotics online from WOODCRAFT out of Saint Louis UNSEEN.

I am talking 3/4 by 4 to 6 by 24 inches.

Has anyone gotten any exotics online sight unseen? What did you think with what you got?

Hearnehardwoods.com will have a better selection of exotics and they ship. It’s close to me so I pick up my materials in person and can vouche for the amazing inventory they have. Call them and tell them what you are looking for.

I live in NW Kansas and I also have no outlets for exotics. I have ordered from Woodcraft and a few of the woodworking businesses on line. So far, and it may just be luck, I really haven’t had any problems with the quality or anything else when buying sight unseen. It has been packed very well and received fairly quick. I have ordered quite a bit in different lengths from 24 to 48 inches, and widths 2 to 8 inches. Just keep track of your shipping charges etc. Oh, and I do order a large majority of my exotics from Woodcraft.

I have ordered some from West Penn Hardwoods. They supply a lot of the Woodcrafts. I just received some Ash and Pink Ivory last week. I am not sure how they compare to others but I have never been disappointed.

I went there two years ago. It was 250,000 sqft of craziness. I thought I took more pictures but I did find this one.

Take a look at eBay. For a lot of exotics they will show a picture of what you are buying. Bell Forest Products and Ocooch Hardwood are both very good and I have purchased from both.

I forgot about ebay. I have purchased from there as well and was happy. You can see the actual piece. Avoid the crazy shipping charges.
