Topic tags/keywords: picnic ljs meet

The LJ picnics that have been going on in other parts of the country sound like a lot of fun, and I’d like to see one happen around here. There has been some discussion about it, and I think there are several LJs who might be interested.

So let’s stop talking about it and get to it! Thos. Angle offerred to have his lovely wife plan the whole thing, so we’re off the hook! (Oooooh … she is going to tan my hide, right after she gets done with ol’ Thos!)

The first couple of things to figure out are time and location. It’s wet in April, and hot in June, so maybe something mid-May?? Also, does anyone want to volunteer their back yard and shop as a picnic location?

One more thing, other LJ picnics have included some great activities, so be thinking about what you’d like to have happen at this one.

Too hot in JUNE??? LOL…I don’t think we’ll even see GRASS here on my side of the state until…ohhhhh, just guessing, here….August 12th…hehehehe.
May’s a pretty busy time, but it does sound fun.

We do have lots of great parks in this area. We might even have some interest from Montana or Utah. If that is the case Shoshone Falls here in Twin Falls is pretty cool. My yard is still just weeds. If it is just a few of us Boise makes a lot more sense.

I live in Meridian and Boise has some great parks along the Boise River, it would be a great place for a LJ picnic.

Hi guys & gals. Back from a trip to Portalnd and trying to get caught up on my email and LumberJocks reading.
A picnic sounds cool! June would be great. The Boise area would work, although the Twin Falls area/Shoshone Falls would be pretty cool, or we could gather at my place (Jerome). I’m game for any of the above!

A couple of people have stated a preference for having the picnic at someone’s place (near some tools) rather than in a park. Jerome seems pretty central to me, and might make it a little more available to those in East Idaho (wherever that is) and North Utah. So I’m voting that we take gbvinc up on his offer to gather at his place.

Speaking of voting … I know I started the thread, and I’ll do my best to coordinate, but I’m actually pretty busy right now (despite the downturn in housing), so I can’t plan the whole thing myself. I don’t think there necessarily has to be one person who is in charge of organization (unless Mrs. Thos is really anxious to make sure we do it right), but maybe we could plan and prepare by general consensus? All in favor?

Some of the other LJ picnics have had short presentations from some of the LJs who attend, there have also been some wood swaps, and the opportunity to display recent projects. Do we want to do any of these, or does anyone have other ideas?

Let’s do the general consensus thing. Mrs. Thos. hasn’t been informed about any of this. Wouldn’t want to surprise her. Sounds like GB moved to Jerome and Dennis is already there. I can’t make it the third weekend in May. That’s rodeo week here. Just line us out, Peter and tell us what you need. Pot luck always works with a chip in on the meat. RSVP of course.

I’d hate to miss Tom, but I don’t think we can make it happen fast enough to catch him.

Anyone else? June 14 at gbvinc’s place? Anyone? Anyone?

Maybe it will just be gbvinc and me … I’ll have one of whatever it is you’re drinking in your photo!

Well, doesn’t seem to be enough interest to have the picnic this year, so I’m going to bag it for this time around. Maybe next year we have a little better luck.
