I was just wondering some of the better HVLP sprayers for someone on a budget.

I think, by far, the Harbor Freight offerings are the best budget sprayers. They are very, very basic – but they get the job done very well.

If have HF item # 66222. I picked it up because I am refinishing some cabinets in a condo and I couldn’t get a decent finish (latex paint) even with the best brushes (Purdy), superfine foam rollers and the use of Floetrol. Orange peel nightmare.

This sprayer not only created a super smooth finish, but it fixed the orange peel and lines on the cabinet doors I had completed with brush/roller with no need to sand.

If you don’t have a decent compressor that can keep up with the gun, item 66297 (turbine system) gets pretty good reviews and is identical to what Rockler sells and is nearly half the price.

I think these one of these would let you know if spraying is for you. You can find out cheaply, too.

I have the same gun- minus the regulator. It does what I need. I usually spray latex with it and get a super finish.

Guys with the HF 66222, what mixing ratio did you use when spraying latex?
I played around with mine tonight for the first time and got a very blotchy pattern unless I cranked the pressure up really high. I know know I need to thin some, just wondering what you guys have had success with.

I own and use regularly the WoodRiver spray gun carried by Woodcraft… Have had it for almost 1.5 years and used it many times w/o any problems.
