Too good to be true?

I was cruising CL today, and ran across this:

Lie-Nielsen #7 1/2 Low angle joiner…...$60

Really? Can this be true? The post says new-in-box, and it seems like someone actually wrote the post. The price just doesn't seem like it should be that low though. I sent an email anyway to see if I could pry out anymore details on the circumstances. I got suspicious though, and think these other tools are being sold by the same person:

Porter-Cable 342 1/4-Sheet Palm Sander - $20
Porter Cable 9748 Variable Speed Tiger Reciprocating Saw - $60

Stolen? knock-offs? Everything is supposedly NIB, and while the price seems great, my spider-sense is telling me something MUST be off for someone to be selling these items for so cheap. Thoughts?

I don't currently own any hand planes, so I'm a bit nervous of what I need to be careful about…..Obviously I'll be careful for the standard bait-and-switch CL stuff. It's located in a really good part of town, so I'm a little less worried about it being too shady also, but we'll see what happens if they email me back.

I've generally gone with the "it's worth having a bit more of a conversation" attitude towards Craigslist stuff, but I've also bailed out on one posting gone totally weird (decent deal on a computer, but when I called he said he wasn't in the city that the post was in, 40 miles away, and he'd happily meet me in the parking lot of the Ikea mid-way between us. I said "no").

Seems like the prices on the Porter Cable are a little under half of street price. When you consider that you'll be buying them from someone without a store front or support maybe that's not too far off the mark, though that Lie Nielsen jointer seems way way low.

Call 'em up and have the conversation. If you get them from their house and the backstory makes sense and they'll give you a written receipt and you feel comfortable with it, why not? And on the other hand: if things feel weird, then you might be the guy whose instincts result in return of stolen property.
