Topic tags/keywords: question mahogany wood

Bargain bin wood from Woodcraft. 1.25 Diameter 12” long 0.426 lbs. looks like a light shade of mahogany.

The reason I ask is that it literally smells like a horse stall when I’m turning it.

Any ideas?

Looks kind of like spanish cedar. I don’t know
about the smell. I think it stinks when it
burns on the saw or with a router.

Spanish cedar is often used in flamenco guitar
necks as a substitute for mahogany because
it’s about 20% lighter. That’s what I used it
for.
