Hi thankyou for the welcome.I heat W/wood am starting to do woodworking, also metal working. Today I draged home a buttonwood, planes, or sycamore tree. Idon’t know why it has three names? I don’t know if it is a soft or hard wood or if it can be used for any thing special or is it just wood. Someday I hop to build a sawmill & saw several logs.

Sycamore is a hardwood. It has a very distinctive ray fleck pattern when quarter/riff sawn which makes it highly desirable for flat projects. I really like it for plates but not so much for bowls but that is purely taste.
