I just bought a second hand (but still brand new in the box) Ridgid jointer. Paid $400. Considering all the compromises involved I think this is a good purchase for me.
Looking forward to bolting it together and trying it out, but if I am realistic about the timeline it will probably be mid December maybe even January before that happens.
In any case I am excited to have the new addition to my workshop.

Congrats on the new jointer. You will definatly enjoy what it can do for you.

I looked at your projects and gotta say you do nice work. I like your hinges. I will have to give them a try.

Thanks guys. I am going to retire December 31 and I am really looking forward to being able to spend some real time in the workshop. Plenty of home improvement projects as well as recreational woodworking projects that I want to do.

Congrats on your retirement. I pulled the plug about 2 1/2 years ago. No regrets.

There’s nothing quite like having straight square stock to start a project! Enjoy!

Thank you I am nervously looking forward to it. I have had an ‘official ’ job since I was 16. This is going to be new territory for me.

Haha, hopefully the mere threat of the jointer will keep all of my boards straight and true.

I know you speak truth.
I thought building small projects would mitigate needing ‘perfect’ stock, but I have found there’s no amount of clamping that will twist a 6” x 3” x 1/2” thick piece of hardwood into an acceptable corner joint for a jewelry box.
I learned how to use the planer to flatten boards and it works pretty good.
Hopefully I will use the jointer a lot and it will be better than using the planer.
