This is kind of old news. A few years back I read about the recall, called
the number and got a new guard shipped to me for my dad’s RAS – they
also sent a nice new table board of 1” thick MDF.

If you have a Craftsman saw you may be eligible to get the new guard,
or, with some saws, get $100 for taking your saw out of commission.

Here’s a site where you can learn more:

That’s weird. I got my dad’s saw (from the 70’s I think) and the model number fits the bill for the recall. However when I go to the site and enter my # in, it say’s “NO KIT AVAILABLE”.

I guess mine is good…

EDIT: I just got off the phone with them and mine is too old for the new guard kit….

I bought a used saw from my boss and while researching it found the recall. Called the number and got the kit several days later. It works great, now I just need to find a manual so I can square up the blade travel.

#3 posted 04-20-2011 04:33 PM any RAS from 1958 to 1993 will get a free safety upgrade or your choose to scrap it send in the motor and they send you 100.00 bucks.

After looking at all the severed limbs from the law suits I’m kind opting for the latter my Dad alway said that his RAS scared the crap outta him.

Thanks for the info, Loren. My saw is in this list. I’m not scraping mine. I had this same model saw in the 80’s and it worked great. Just bought the one I have now at a yard sale, so I’ll up grade the guard.

I don’t think you get to choose. If they have a kit, you get the kit. If yours is tool old (mine was) they ship you a box that contains a smaller box, some packing tape, a pre-paid mailing label, and instructions. Send off the head/motor and a few weeks later you get a check for $100.

Yes i stand corrected you only get the 100.00 option If your saw is not upgradable. Now what the heck am I going to use this thing for? I already own a cabinet saw, miter saw, and skill saw what the heck would entise me to use this old tech???

Only took 3 days for the RAS kit to come in the mail. I ordered the LUR10 Freud Crosscut Blade for this upgrade since the blade has a 5ยบ negitive hook on the carbide tip to make it safer.
