I’ve been noticing a lot of Internet Trolls infiltrating web forums over the past few years. Surprisingly, this forum has not had nearly the number of trolls as some I go to have. Some forums I used to visit shut down it got so bad. For those of you that don’t know what an Internet Troll is, it’s a person who has nothing good to say after you post something or berates you or picks fights. Sometimes he/she could be helpful at first making you think they are one fot he good ones only to attack later on. Basically their intent is to upset members and be disruptive. Having good admins and moderators helps but if there’s enough trolls or people that pile on, it can be overwhelming for those that are charged with the “policing” of the forum. It really is a shame that these people have infiltrated forums to this degree but I guess it’s a microcosm of the way our society is now. I would hate to see what things will be like online in 20-30 years but thankfully by then I’ll be too old to care.

Right On The Money Rob! There’s a couple on here that need a GOOD BUTT KICK also. Especially One who Stole my Complete Identity and Posted with it! Now He’s telling everyone I was Stalking Him! BS!

I’m an Administrator on a GMC. Cadillac. CTS Site (Also My Car) Our Site would have fired his Butt off of there for good!

Also, the majority of his Projects have come here via his PUBLIC Account on photobucket. They have an ”Original Source” Key for all of the Projects. Usually an Auction Site. Click on it and it takes you to where he TOOK HIS? PROJECT From.. He doesn’t even have a Shop! Numerous requests for Pictures of it. Results are ZERO! He posted this in 2007 ….”will post pictures next time my shop gets a good cleaning” NOTHING YET!

Thanks for the Post Rob!

Best Regards: Rick

We have had out share one troll kept posting porn and almost shut LJs down for good. Troll or not there have been some folks with their negative view on life has upset a lot of folks also. Looking at the positive side, we have a great many creative, thoughtful and helpful folks that greatly outnumber any of the negative folks.

We have great moderators and they respond quickly to flagged posts. Cricket does an amazing job.

You obviously never spent much time in Usenet newsgroups :)

I was a regular on rec.woodworking from the early ‘90s until NNTP hosting became less common for ISPs and you had to pay to subscribe. Lots of bitching and moaning back then too.

Times change; people don’t.

Once again I’ve got to agree with Jim and Mike. There have been a few knuckleheads stirring the pot but Cricket seems to have a gentle, yet firm way of keeping them under control. I sometimes wonder if some of them are not reincarnations of previous knuckleheads coming back to create some nonsense and controversy. Give them enough rope…..

If it weren’t for Cricket, I would have abandoned LJ long ago. I can’t give her enough credit for her good work.

It’s your tax dollars at work ROB. The vast majority of these so called TROLLS are bought and paid for U.S. Dept. of Defense disinformation agents. PAID FOR WITH YOUR TAX MONEIS! Faceebook and youtube are over half U.S. AGENTS and or BOTS. Today most are BOTS they are not even real humans. These agents can have MANY SOCK PUPPETS i.e. more than one ID… so one AGENT may actually be numerous people on a particular site. I have seen it many times where one guy will be the entire POST on a subject.

Again your US Government and your tax dollars at work…

Some may even be real humans interested in the subject matter here. BUT they are paid to spread lies and black propaganda.

LOL and you thought they only worked 911 posts on YOUTUBE!!! LOLL!

Before you ask me if I have my foil hat on too tight.. Do your own homework!

I would challenge CRICKET to follow/trace a few IP Addresses on suspect posts. See if they come out of the UK or Scotland or Tele Eve… That would be a big clue!
