Just before Christmas my lathe speed controller died on my JET mini lathe. I finally got a replacement circuit board and got it installed. While waiting for the board to come in I stumbled across this website:

http://www.frontrangewoodturners.org/misc_pdf/reversing_the_jet.pdf

which tells how to add a reversing switch to the JET 1014VS lathe. I just completed adding the switch and it works like a charm, I can now reverse turn and sand which does give a really smooth finish. The switch is easy to install and only takes about 2 hours of time and less than $10.00. Just follow the instructions on the website and you’ve increased the functionality of you lathe. I believe this will work on all lathes that use a DC motor. All your doing is reversing the polarity of the motor.
