Its from a wooden chair, fairly hard, as in difficult to dent a corner edge with a fingernail.

I’ll go out on a limb and suggest Alder is what you’ve got there.

Rubber or some sort of commercially grown South east Asia wood.

Thanks for the conversion, to Alder. RE: wood ID, on this site, for me I always start with Alder-Oak, Alder-Cherry, and I am about publish Alder with MDF…. (Similar to John Snow, the bastard to Ned Stark- Game of Thrones) Hence, the bastard of Alder is MDF…….
