Topic tags/keywords: lumber maple

As many of you know, living near Myrtle Beach, SC doesn’t offer the opportunity to purchase a lot of species of hardwoods. At the BORG and its blue step brother it is basically red oak and poplar. I found a place that sales 1×8 maple for $5.14/lf. My question is bascially this….Is this outrageously overpriced or within a normal range? It is already planed and read to work with. I bought a total of 22 linear feet. I have no idea what I going to do with it as the other projects i have going are already cut in oak but after stopping at every hardware and lumber store nearby I thought I could at least have it ready. Wish I had some walnut or another contrasting wood but I am weary of ordering wood and having it shipped.

It’s high, but not terribly outrageous if you need a piece or two ASAP.

Your price works out to $7.71 per board foot. I have purchased from Wall Lumber. and they will ship 20 bf of hard maple to your door, surfaced and ready to use, UPS freight included, for $110. That’s $5.50 per bf.

Thanks. That is what I wanted to hear…A place that I could buy something. I just stumbled across this hole in the wall and figured that while I was there I would come away with something. I wouldn’t have gotten so much but I really liked about half of both boards and the guy said that it was take the whole thing or nothing. It will be good for the inventory either way.

Have your say...
