Topic tags/keywords: grizzly cabinet saw g1023rl g0690

Anyone own the new G1023RL and care to offer up a review? I’ve not seen any reviews of it yet, and I’m quite curious. I’ve read all the 1023R vs 0690 posts, but I have yet to see anyone that actually owns the 1023R post on this topic.

I bought one about 6 months ago. Took a little while to get everything cleaned up but the saw works great. The only negatives for me was that the saw does not come from the factory with a power cord or connector from the factory. So you have to provide both before you can use the saw. The other issue is the blade adjustment. This seems trivial but the blade adjusts to exactly square but there is no play left on the trunion. In other words you cannot go a little past square and then back up to square. The only reason this bothers me a little is I don’t know what you would do if your saw did not get to square but no adjustment was left. Otherwise, the saw is great.

I ordered the G1023RLW last May 2010, but when repeated production delays kept pushing delivery clear up to August 2010 I bought an in-stock G0690 instead. IMO, the lack of G1023RL reviews is mostly due to the ”newness” of the model and the lack of time in the hands of users. Nobody wants a “tool gloat” review that says ‘I’ve had the saw 5 min. and it is the best saw I ever…’

Be patient and reviews for the G1023RL will eventually be published, OR buy a G0690 which after all has a re-worked trunnion that came from the older G1023SL model anyway (with a very long track record of dependable service).

Thanks Stumpknocker. That’s something I noticed about a shopfox (basically the G0690). I wonder if the G0690 is the same?

Mike, I understand completely. I suppose I’d like to have the saw before the summer, and since I’m looking at both of these saws, I thought I’d at least ask around since I didn’t see anything on it. I completely understand the new-ness factor. I suppose there are things about each saw that I like, and I think the cost difference is not really a big factor. I like the belt set-up on the new G1023R, but I like the motor on the G0690 better. The fence on the G0690 seems better too, and I suppose I’m leaning toward the G0690.

Just wanted to do my due diligence before I drop a bunch of cash on the last cabinet saw I’ll ever own (did I just jinx myself?) At least as far as my wife is concerned…

joirishman,
Oh just wait, it gets better… I also added the cast iron router extension to my G0690 for a total around $1750. You only have to cry once…. You only have to cry once…. You only have to cry once….
