I built a drum sander a year or two ago and after using it I made a modification to make it safer and thought I’d pass it along to my LJ family. Not posting this as a project, just a safety FYI. The long and short of it is that the DIY sanders that don’t have a conveyor have the potential to kick back like a table saw so I built a sled to feed the material through the machine. I posted a short youtube vid of the original machine and sled here before I beefed it up, enclosed the pulleys, added sandpaper to the bed and eliminated the miter track to look like the below picture but the concept is still the same. Lots of positive comments so I thought I’d share it just in case you have one or are considering building one. It ain’t pretty but it works great.

Excellent idea and you built a fine machine.
