I got this plane in a deal for a Stanley No. 2. The body is 8 13/16” long, and the iron is 1 11/16” wide. It is faint but the Sargent trademark in the oval is partially visible. It is a prelateral and didn’t want to toss anything historically significant out especially if someone could use the parts. One cheek is broken but I’ll show pictures in hopes of identifying this plane. I realize that this could very well be just a plane with an old Sargent iron in it. All part of the fun for me. David

Looks like a Sargent type 1 frog to my untrained eye. Don or Mike would know better.

Have a look at this type study:

Hello, thanks for the reply Tim. I’d say you are right, looks the same to me too.
I don’t see many Sargent planes in my area and don’t collect them. That is a great site you listed too, saved that one.
I never thought to do a type study search like that, I was doing a Sargent prelateral plane” image search with Bing…..didn’t get many hits., thanks again.

You’ll probably also find DonW's site useful, especially this link:

and this LJ post and the links in it:

Send me your address and you can have em. Do you want the broken Base? I was going to use it in my electrolysis
Tank. You are welcome to the frog, screws, iron and chipbreaker and lever cap.
