I have acquired an old 60`s Stanley router mod.1287. All is Ok except there seems to be no provision for locking the spindle while tightening the collet nut. Could anyone please advise ?
Also I would like to purchase any technical info or manuals for same.
Just got attached to the darn thing while cleaning it up!!!

Does it not have flat spots on the shaft to fit a wrench ?

No, that is what fooled me. I have now been kindly informed that pulling the on/off switch towards the operator engages a slotted bar with flats in the top of the shaft. Was warned that abuse is common and the bar is often damaged. Mine was. but only superficially and a few minutes peening back and a light cleanup has it working nicely
