I recently sold my sjorbergs workbench to a man who owned a tool & die shop. I was excited to deliver it there to see his shop, because in a past life i was a cnc machinist and thought maybe i could get a job there. He greeted me at the dock door and asked if i would like to see his plane collection. There they were 100s of stanley baileys, bedrocks and some i never heard of, after holding a few in my hands he opened a draw and pulled out the most beautiful plane i had ever seen. He said it had a teak wood handle, also there were brass pins and dovetails, that were folded over BEAUTIFULLY done. They were hand crafted by a man named Marcou and as i was holding it my hands he said that one cost $3400 right then and there i lost consciousness and almost blacked out. He really caught me off guard, i had no idea planes could cost so much.

I can make you one for $10,000 if you want one. If you got the money, someone will make it for you.

He’s not the only one making beautiful, and expensive, planes. Check out Holtey Classic Handplanes. Be sure to visit his blog section for some great pictures and details on all the work he does, it will make you think maybe the prices are too low. ;-)
