Topic tags/keywords: jocks suggestion I love the Google maps integration with people’s workshop locations, however it is difficult to find those in your area through the search function. I think it would be a great boon if under the Jocks section if we added a “Jocks in your Area” or “Jocks by State” option. Feasibile? Thoughts? -- Scott |

I’d settle for “Jocks in your Continent!” -- Eric at http://adventuresinwoodworking.com |

I have always been hesitant to take a picture of my shop and then put my address into Google maps. It just seem like a good way of letting crooks know exactly where they can go to find a shop full of expensive tools. Maybe I’m just paranoid. It would be nice if your city or state were listed under your forum posts. It would save a click if you wanted to see where someone if from. -- Scott, San Diego |

That’s been brought up before Swied… I wouldn’t even settle for a list only visible to jocks, as anyone could sign up to see it. I’m on the map, but only vaguely… you can add your state or whatever to your signature line though. I do know of a few jocks within an hour or two of me… but there could be dozens, and I wouldn’t know. -- The opposite of war isn't peace. I placed the pointer in the town near where I lived, not in the exact place. You can be vauge enough -- Gary, East TX -- The longest journey begins with a single step. |

After the very unfortunate incident with Oscorner’s wife, I removed as much precision as I could from my signature and map placement. It’s just a matter of safety these days- kind of a sign of the times. You just don’t know who’s reading these posts. -- Furniture Medic- the prescription for damaged furniture |

when we wrote up the “help” files we made sure to mention the security issue—location is a great asset to the site but if you want to be safe, just tag the general region you are in (perhaps within a 2-3 hour radius). I think it’s somewhere on Martin’s master list (I wonder how many pages long that list is??) .. to have the ability to check out different regions.. or something like that. If I’m wrong, well… sorry Martin .. could you add it to your ever-growing list?? :) :) :) -- "Functional WoodArt" by Debbie, Canada (http://www.execulink.com/~yohan) |

reminds me of a conversation with an exchange student from Switzerland. He came to Canada and wanted his host family to show him Vancouver (west coast) and Hudson Bay (far north) and the east coast… -- "Functional WoodArt" by Debbie, Canada (http://www.execulink.com/~yohan) |

Being from California I felt the same way about the New England states where you could drive through -- Gary, East TX -- The longest journey begins with a single step. |

I at least like to see the city, state they’re from, I think thats close enough. If you want to know more about a Jock, write him a private message, & if he wants too, he’ll give you whatever he chooses. -- Dick Cain, Hibbing, MN. http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/gallery/member.php?uid=3627&protype=1 |

In the US a zip code search might be useful, and still plenty vague to the bad guys. -- Maplewood, MN |

I agree Dick, a search by state or city/state for the people that elect to list those on their profile, would be cool. Then if two or more wanted to touch base or contact each other they could just send messages. -- Rob (A) Waxahachie,TX |
