Topic tags/keywords: jointer drill press

I have had a truly impressive PortaCable jointer for years – and have not used it for at least 2 years. I lost it’s fence and got a Ridgid 13” planer thicknessr.

My Ridgid planer thicknessr – very well used – does for me all I need done . Occasionally, I include my DeWalt portable planer.

I acquired a bench drill just last week and need to provide a strong base for it. My little-used jointer has just the base I need and a very powerfull motor I can convert to other uses. And the jointer is taking up precious floor space.

The challenge is that I just fear to kill that jointer off like that. I remain in awe of its power and the quality of its construction and parts. I LOVE it.

Some advice needed please.

Oopsie! Thanks for the correction.

A Rockwell Delta I think it is.

I will send the photos tomorrow – I’m at my day job right now.

I would try to build a new fence for this tool. This old iron may last a long time, My jointer was built in the 1940’s and I was able to get the bearings at to local autoparts store, Stil works great.

Pete, thank you! I like that suggestion and would love to keep this great lady alive.

But do you have any suggestions for how to get plans for and build a fence for her?

Well – honest answer – I knew that question was coming up: I moved into my own home a few years ago and lost it in transit.

Every one denied even seeing something like it!

I had an old jointer with an incomplete fence. I made a new tilting center
mount fence for it using plywood and piano hinges. I think I got the
idea for the fence from the Fine Woodworking book “Making and
Modifying Machines” where there is a design for an entire shop-
built wooden jointer.

Loads of thanks.

I am sketching something I think could be bolted on to the jointer with a flat bar and some angle iron. Send it shortly.

I would take a look over at OWWM and see if anyone is parting one of these out, you are far better off with the OEM fence than building one of your own…

Jonathan, thanks once again. I will apply myself to that. When I do make this fence, I will be sure to send some picture.

Thank you once again.

dbhost, I thank you for response.

I have visited the OWWM site.

But the option of making a purchase is generally not viable; most manufacturers and vendors do not ship to Nigeria. There is also the very high cost of shipping as well as the killer of an exchange rate and other charges.

Usually, I ask friends that travel abroad to make purchases for me.

Thank you once again. I can live with a fence fixed at 90 deg. cos I have a DeWalt 626 and a Rockler router table.
