I want to make a serving tray/laptop desk that has folding legs that will fold out of the way under the top but wondered how most people would make the pivots for the legs to fold up. I plan on making a two leg system that folds out and allows it to sit over my legs when sitting on the floor or the legs fold up and allow me to sit it on the kitchen table if I want.

I was thinking maybe dowels but not sure how I could keep a tight fit but have the pivot nice and smooth at the same time.

Suggestions?
