I recently aquired a Skil Saw HD77 for a good price. It wasn’t taken care of very well. I’ve taken things apart and cleaned, lubed, oil change, and everything. The shoe has some rust on it so I am going to glass bead it. My question is what should I put over it to keep it from rusting again? I’ve read where you can use Johnston Paste wax, but I didn’t know if I could use it on steel. I know I can on cast iron. I’m looking to recondition this saw without dumping a lot of money into it. I found a replacement shoe for about $20 bucks, but costs almost that for shippping. I’m assuming paint would gum up on any wood I cut?

Polish it with a woven pad (Scotch Brite or such) then wax it. Job done.
