Topic tags/keywords: plane

i picked up this plane last weekend at an auction. i don’t really need it, and bought it to resell. i believe all the parts are original. from the info i could find online, it appears to be a type 1. the patent date is apr 2, 95 which makes it from 1898 (the first year for the bedrock series). given it’s age, i’d say it’s in pretty good shape(i hope i look this good at 113). it could easily be tuned up and used as is. however, i want to be upfront and point out the imperfections. there’s small crack in the front knob, but it’s rock solid (as is the back handle). there’s also a very small amount of paint? on the back handle. there’s also some minor pitting on the bottom. the bottom of the lever cap is worn. i’d like it to see it go to good home. so i figured that i’d offer it on lumberjocks first, instead of ebay. if you’re intrested, reply with an offer.

Can you post some better pictures? I can’t see the sole well enough to tell how bad the pitting is. Thanks!!

That’s a valuable plane. I’m quite jealous. Shame about the hanging hole, but it wouldn’t bother me (a user, not a collector) one bit. Congrats on the find.

Bent – You may have a rare bird on your hands. I wouldn’t put it up for sale until you find out what it’s really worth. Even common Bedrocks in average condition can be worth in the $100 range easily.

Hi , I am a new member but an educated bedrock man! That’s a nice looking plane you have but the only thing that hurts you is the hang hole. If no Jang hole I would say you have 300.00 dollar plane as is. But you run into one problem with that, collectors are the only ones who want the type ones. Users just want the flat top. So you need a unique buyer who either likes type ones and uses them. Or a collector who doesn’t care , both difficult to find. You are in luck my friend I happen to think it’s perfect and I am both a user collector. How much would you want for it? By the way nice job getting a rare plane like that.

Have your say...
