Topic tags/keywords: blogs images

I just sent a message to Martin and then I realized that the LJ community should be able to help even faster.

I am trying to put up my first blog and want to embed some images. I set up a Photobucket account and have copied and pasted the URL into the text. My problem is that the size of the images is way to big since they came from a 5 mp camera. How do I shrink these down so that they don’t get cropped, or better yet so the viewers can see what I am posting?

First off: Does Photobucket give you an option to offer different sizes? I use Flickr, and once you upload the photo and click on “All Sizes” it will give you an option for different sizes of the same photo. By the way, 500 pixels is a good width for LumberJocks.

Secondly: Even if it doesn’t, you could use your photo software to scale down the image before uploading it to Photobucket. If you select a 500 pixel width and tell it to keep the dimensions, it should work. This option is not as good because you are only giving them the one size. I like to have the smaller size on LJ but have it so that when you click on it, it goes to the large size.

Feel free to message me off-line and I’d be glad to help further.

Yes, Photobucket offers resizing. I just sent PM back to Shannon.

The content area on the LJ is exactly 640px wide… I did this intentionally during the last design update to support up to 640px wide pictures.

... and Flickr is great choice too ;)

Oh, 640px, great! Now I know, and without having to experiment…
