I have read numerous posts where the distaff side can be a real hindrance to working the wood.

I just have to share a small story about my wife. We’ve been married about 8 years and she is unbelievably supportive.

My evolving shop is in our ~20×20 2 car garage. Her car is garaged every night. I don’t often remember to think about the impact of dust on things in the garage; I had only a 12amp shop vac and wasn’t always religious about using it.

She came down one day to go off to work to find her car covered in a fine layer of dust. After of course complaining a bit she didn’t demand that I start moving her car out, or any other type of preventative action.

She bought me a Delta 50-760 dust collector for Valentine’s day with the comment that she is saving her car and my lungs.

Bill.

Very understanding of her! I have the same shop set up and the same issues with my wife. I solved it by tarping off half of the garage, and only making dust on MY side.

My wife is like yours. Mine lets me buy toys as long as she get something for herself. Aren’t they great.

I am the perfect wife … I come with my own tools (just kidding). You do sound like a very lucky man.

We solved this by my husband buying my woodshop so that I could move out of the garage. I’m just a little troubled by it though, I don’t know what was more important to him though … my needs …. or his Audi TT Coup :)

Teri, he probably figured you were more fun to wash than the Audi. :-)

Correct me if I’m wrong but the second picture of Teri appears to be blushing. My shop is housed about a football field distance from the house. My wife wants me to convert our garage into her shop for her crafts.

Sure helps to have a supportive spouse with a potentially expensive hobby like this. Bill, you are blessed, and I’m thankful to have a similar circumstance.
While it wouldn’t necessarily be a dealbreaker to have a spouse that was less than supportive, I feel for those who have reported that unfortunate turn of events here. I’m glad I don’t have to directly feel their pain.

And, Honey if you’re reading this I promise to get on that honey-do backlog as soon as the weather breaks and I get the tablesaw tuned. ;^D

Mine bought me a rolling lumber rack and I thought I would cry. She’s so darned thoughtful. But then, so am I when it comes to her proclivities. I know I’m demanding but I try and makeup for it; do her bidding, wash her back, iron her socks, keep my fingernails clean, bake her favorite cookies, blah, blah, blah… now that I think of it, I believe I’m down a tool or two… hmmm, let’s see what’s new over on H.N.T. Gordon’s website…

always,
J.C.

my wife parks out in the elements so I can have more room to work. She also gave me the go-ahead to make a trip to Grizzly for my dream shop.
