I am looking at a 2 hp lathe. The obvious first choice would be a powermatic but the 3520 seems to be around $3800. The 2hp jet is around $2300 and the Grizzly G0698 is $1350. I have other Grizzly tools and in general have been very satisfied. Seems like a lot of difference in the price for the same specs, if fact, the grizzly specs are closer to the powermatic than the jet. Any opinions ?

I have the Grizzly G0462. It is a more basic (cheaper) version on the G0698. It does not have electronic speed control and it does not have indexing.

Nonetheless, I am impressed that this is a solid, dependable lathe that I can rely on.

Thanks for the reply. I am leaning towards the grizzly. I just don’t see how the powermatic can be worth over 2 1/2 times the price of the grizzly with basically the same specs so I figured I must be overlooking something.

Stumpknocker you are hitting on a subject I don’t understand either. How can some companies charge the ridiculous prices they charge? They are living on a reputation I guess. My pet peeve is DeWalt batteries..75 bucks
when I can buy a new drill with the charger and two batteries for 135. I recently sold a 788 scroll saw that the motor was trashed on. Great saw but they wanted $214.00 for a new motor, I bought a PC new for 189.00. Not quite as good of saw but at least I got a warranty and so far it’s done what I need it to do.
I’m thinking about buying a bigger drum sander(I have a sandflea) and I am looking real strong at the grizzly. I have a grizz 555 xtreme bandsaw that is a real jewel.
