So I was fortunate enough to have my wife offer for me to purchase the Penn State 2hp blower. I was getting 4400 FPM with the harbor freight, Super dust deputy, and the Wynn filter. Now I am getting 6600 FPM by just replacing the blower. Not sure of the CFM calculation but I am pretty sure that is a big difference. The meter I was using only had FPM. Reading were taken from the end of my 20ft 4” blue hose from Rockler that is connected directly to the SDD.

The Penn state unit is pretty heavy so I had to get creative to mount it by myself. It’s build quality is impressive. The HF bashers will say why not just start out this way. Well I could not afford it at the time and the HF unit did its job adequately. When doing this upgrade it gave me the opportunity to clean the Wynn and there was not very much fine dust that fell into the bag (thanks to the SDD). The main idea behind upgrading is I am going to run pipe and I will have some pretty long runs.

Can you post some pics of your mod? How much was the Penn St blower? Did it bolt right up?

Is thisthe unit you are talking about?

I have owned this unit with WYNN canister for years and except for replacing on/off switch (shiiping cost as much as switch) and taking apart motor & cleaning has served me well. Honestly think the 2 HP motor rating is bogus more like 1 ½ HP.

When its time to replace the motor think Penn State unit would be big improvement.

You are probably getting around 650 cfm based on the Wood Magazine resting of this unit.

I suspect that PSI blower has a 12” impeller, compared to the 10” (+/-) one the HF had, that in itself will result in a lot more air flow (as you found out). Should be a good upgrade for you.

Yes that is the unit. PSI sent me a 20% coupon so it was perfect timing.

Oh and another thing. The motor on the PSI unit looks to be a standard induction motor so if it should happen to fail some day it is replaceable.

Do you realize how sad that statement sounds?

I do not think the statement is sad but maybe typical. Before I buy anything over a certain amount I have to consult the CFO. if I don’t it will show up on the credit card statement and will have to beg forgiveness and take my punishment.

I have been surprised. I went to the CFO about buying the Sawstop PCS and figured that would get turned down but was approved instantly.

Penn State stuff was awesome. I have a 2 hp Tempest cyclone, and really like it.
