There’s a Delta X5 6” jointer pretty local to me on CL; asking $400, appears to be in good condition. How good of a price is this when you can get a new 6” jointer (Ridgid, Grizzly, etc) in that same price range? Thanks in advance for your thoughts – slowly trying to build the tool collection, but trying to make logical and informed decisions.

The Delta is a nice tool, but no nicer than the Griz or Ridgid….it’s literally identical to the former Yorkcraft 6” jointer. Several people bought the Delta for $322 shipped with a free mobile base from Amazon a couple of years ago…I wouldn’t pay $400 used.

Skip it and get a new one for that price !! The Delta brand name used to mean something , but now it means something else : )

I wouldn’t pay more than $150 for a used 6” jointer unless it was a rare
and collectible machine, had an insert cutterhead, or had unusually
long tables. What you can get a used jointer for will vary by region
or course – but $400 is a lot for an ordinary machine of this capacity.

If it were a Northfield or something like that it’d get my attention.

I can speak as a happy Grizzly 6” jointer user. I recommend their jointers and, IMO, the basic straight blades are sufficient.
