knot/spalting question

had to cut down a nice maple, diseased. the bark was dieing and in most places dead, I am fining some bad wood in or near the core of the log not much but some. I didn’t think of it till I was done waxing but is waxing the parts of the dead wood in the block going to cause problems. there are three pieces that have spalt looking spots in them.
One piece has a knot on the edge but is very shallow maybe 1/8 inch or less, will that cause a crack, should I remove it thanks Mike
