Hi Folks,

I received a “General” brand “Moisture Seeker” moisture meter for Christmas. It’s model number MMD4E. I’ve never used one of these before and I’m not sure if this one works or if I’m doing something wrong. It lights up and displays 0% but when I press the pins into some wood is just continues to read 0%. Occassionaly when I first turn it on and put it into wood it will quickly flash a reading before going to 0% but the value won’t stay on the screen and then it will never give another reading.

Am I doing something wrong?

Joe

Does it have fresh batteries? Not the ones from the store that may have come with it but real fresh batteries?

Some have an upper limit too. I think mine is about 50%, can’t remember.

Thanks to all who responded. Johathan hit the nail on the head. I was trying to check the moisture on the inside of a kitchen drawer which I finally got a reading on at right around 5%. When I tried checking wood in the shop I got readings every time – all of them well above 5%. I almost sent it back. Thanks again.
