Topic tags/keywords: question material finishing deck box

After years of “encouragement” from my wife I have decided that I will build a couple of flip top deck boxes for our pool area. After having limited success with Spar varnish, I would just like to use a simple stain/water treatment combo for the exterior.

I would love any suggestions for a material that will hold up in the SE Texas heat & humidity and that hopefully finishes nicely. I have no experience working with anything other than soft Yellow Pine and Oak.

Thanks folks!

Easter Red Cedar

White Oak

Those would be my preferences for this type of project.

Good Luck and remember…

I use TWP-100 as a finish for outdoor furniture and exterior doors.
