Here’s a new thing coming on the market soon.
Claims to be able to cut wood up to 1.5mm,
thick enough for marquetry.

Work envelope is 100mm/2

That doesn’t look like much of a bargain. You can get a 2500mW unit with far more working area for about half that kickstarter price.

I suppose the primary appeals are the compact

Having an unshielded, exposed, laser powerful enough to engrave wood flying around strikes me as a really, really bad idea.

I have a small unit that does that and I paid $49 for it off ebay including shipping.
