I recently purchased a damaged Dewalt 733 Model 2 Planer, and I replaced the broken head. My planer is now rebuild and ready for test cuts. The head lock handle will not push down easily, and appears to be sitting too high on the machine. I followed the assembly diagrams exactly, with the spring legs toward the rear of the machine. I also cleaned an lubricated every part as I put the planer back together. I cannot understand why this handle will not press down as designed. Has anyone out there faced this same issue? I cannot see how this lock handle could be installed any other way except completely backwards. I am getting ready to haul it down to the Dewalt repair shop and admit my dumbness, Any help?
