Topic tags/keywords: bark live edge natural edge

I just made a bandsaw box from red oak that includes the bark along the top edge. My intention is to use BLO and then Arm-r-Seal on the box, but I’m wondering how to deal with the bark. It still has some green and white lichen in it too. Should I just brush in some finish and see what happens?
Does anyone have experience with this? Any precautions?

I usually just poly over it along with the rest…

Cheers,
