Greetings guys and gals. Today I have 2 photos to show you. The first installment was a tough one and it was a little over post 100 that got the right answer.

This evening, we’re going to try it again. Once again, this is not found in stores. To be honest, most of what I mill is not found in stores so keep that in mind.

The standing rule will be that certain people are not allowed to guess, as they’re not really guessing, they already know what I have and more than likely have seen this actual piece. Also, no paying $15 to ki7hy for the answer. I didn’t see one cent of the money he got from the last one :D

Ok, here goes and have fun everyone. This shouldn’t last as long but the 1 week until reveal will be in effect.

I gotta go with ebony.

Edit: Make that curly birds-eye ebony.

I disagree. Southern Yellow Soapberry maybe.

cotton wood?

We have a winner. I figured this would be a short one.

These pieces were milled from the branches of a tree that blew down during a storm 3 years ago. The main trunk was 10 foot across. Sadly, I had no way of dealing with a log that size so that was thrown out but I managed to get a lot of large branches to mill.

This is honestly one of my favorite woods to work with. It is easy to machine but is fairly hard but very light weight. The drawback…it smells awful when working.

WooHoo!

Purely a WAG!

We have lots of varieties of CW here in NM, the Rio Grande CW is “interesting” but the wood just does not play nice, lots of twisting, checking, SMELL, etc.

Even as fire wood, the logs are difficult to split.
