At one time I was a penaholic. I made many pens that I sold or gave away as gifts. I’ve been through a 12 step program and now I am a recovering penaholic.

When I was so active in pen making I tried making pen boxes. I could not find a way to make them on an efficient basis. I could never make one is less than an hour and you can buy them ready made for $1.60 – $10.00. You can buy perfectly adequate ones for in the $3 – $5 range.

IMO, you need a box to sell or give away a pen. However, no one buys a pen because of the box. They buy the pen because they like the pen. I used to offer cheap plastic box for free with each pen and offer to upgrade to a wooden box for an extra $3.00. I think it was about a 50/50 mix between wooden and plastic.

It may be relevant to say that most of my pens sold in the $20 – $40 range. Once you get some experience you can make pens in less than 15 minutes each if you are doing them is batches of 10 or more.

I don’t mean to discourage you on making your own boxes. I am just sharing my experience.
