Topic tags/keywords: e-mail question

I received this in my personal e-mail day before yesterday. I have taken out the name of the person, but it was a girl’s name. What I am trying to figure out is where did she find my e-mail on here? I looked but to no avail YET! and has anyone got anything similar?
I keep thinking my e-mail has got to be here somewhere yet I really can’t find it.
I just know I am going to feel soooo stupid when I get a reply that says Allison your e-mail is right here. :) But this kind of e-mail really bugs me, ESPECIALLY when it uses Lumberjocks as a ways and means to get to me, ya know?

If it came as a PM, then of course the person did not have to know your email address… they just signed up as a member and PM’d you.

If the message came to you as a regular email, then maybe they are not talking about your LJ profile at all. A lot of those emails go out assuming the recipient has a Facebook profile.

I got the same thing the first day I was on here. Same wording, same weird feeling. The message came to me as a private message through LJ. I simply deleted it and moved on. But I already decided that if i got a second one, I’d be making some changes.

Lots of us got them.

It’s the same sort of benign spam that most of us get, almost daily.

I wouldn’t worry about it.

I also got one just the other day and have only been on Lumberjocks for a very short time. the one I got stated that she saw my my profile on Lumberjocks and this was not a PM. Looks like a breach of some kind.

PMs sent to you on generate a “notification” e-mail that GOES to the e-mail address you provided, when you registered on this site.

So … what might LOOK LIKE this person e-mailed you … is probably simply an indication that he/she PM’d you—sent you a private message.

This would NOT mean that he/she got your e-mail address.

Look into it. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened.

It’s probably just spam, although be aware that in coming months the number of emails similar to that that you receive NOT associated with lumberjocks will probably skyrocket. Read this tech article on for a little more info why. I realize the company is starting in Australia, but really, how long until they expand. Watch out degoose!

Essentially, if you have a facebook profile, and you have not taken the steps to hide your information (such as email, sex, and relationship status) this dating site’s computer will find it and automatically set up an account for you in their dating program. Which could lead to you receiving emails regarding relationships from people you don’t even know, that already know about you. Now realize this is a scary concept, but it’s also a worst case scenario. Taking the easy steps to reduce the amount of personal info you have on websites (the ones you can control) will pretty much eliminate the chances of this being an issue (and reduce your spam!). And a good email spam filter will catch most of it anyways.

Hmmm. Not sure our email is out there on this site either. I’ll have to check. But funny, today I did a search on google for old pictures of the gasconade river. I’m just looking for old pictures like back in the steamboat days. And there I was. My boatdock on LJ’s site. Couldn’t believe it. It was about 3 or 4 pages in though, but still. Kind of cool, but kind of not….I know you know not to open emails from people you don’t know, so I’m not gonna lecture. But it is a weird one. From what I have found you can click on it and read it, but don’t go any farther than that. I have seen that same sentence before in emails that I have received from people I don’t know. Usually women. Love matters. It’s either a virus or a scam of some sort. Thanks for the warning.

Hi Allison, it’s been sent you as private message. Emails are kept private on LJ.

I answered her email and we’ve had several long chats. She even called me when she was stranded in London and needed $600 to get home. She’s a nice gal and she introduced me to some other nice folks. Why, it was through one of the other folks that I learned of an inheritance I have in Ethiopia. I just need to come up with the $ needed to pay the probate fees and I’ll be RICH! I can’t thank her enough.

Gene, when you get that inheritance I have some swamp land down near the Okeefanookee Swamp that I’d sure like to sell you. ;) HaHaHaHa – just kidding. :)

Judging from her email to Allison, she swings both ways too. :-)

I have not gotten one of these for while. I wonder if I have lost my appeal or have they just given up. I never respond and I laugh it off.
