I have a unique opportunity (to me anyway), to raid a buddy’s stepfather’s woodworking shop for tools and materials to buy. There are two big tools that I am particularly interested in, but would like some advice from you all about them. The first is a Woodtek Lathe. It looks pretty big and even has a small bed to the left of the headstock. I don’t know anything about woodtek and can’t find much online about it. I wasn’t able to locate a model number or year of manufacture. I do not have a lathe and have been wanting one for a while now. If this is in decent condition, should I go for it? How much should I offer for it? I don’t think my buddy or his mother have any idea what price they should ask for. The second big tool is an 8” jointer that I believe was labeled IMS. I can’t find anything at all about this machine or brand. It is green in color if that helps. The serial number is 87204. Any ideas on what I should offer for this one also? Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me!

It sounds like they are essencially Harbour Freight things… Now I could be wrong, but, thats how it sounds, being from little known companies…

Is it maybe once a product of this company: http://www.imscompany.com/Public/SiteMap.aspx ? Thats the only company I can think of, manufacturing things like that, that would make sense.

Woodtek is mostly good stuff. Equivalent to Jet. Some of the
wood lathes are really nice, overbuilt machines. Lathes are a
bit of a Woodtek specialty and almost at the same standard
as Oneway in some cases.

That lathe with the outboard bed is a serious machine as I recall.

It does have the outboard bed. So no good info on the jointer?
