Hope this isn’t old news, but I found this page on the new combination plane via Google. Not sure how to click to it on leevalley.com.

http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=75620&cat=51

A bunch of info, plus links to a PDF manual and new web pages for all the blades, with prices.

I called a few weeks ago and they told me planes will ship early September, but that link shows mid September.

Anyone else excited?

I think it came out last week and the closest local Lee Valley sold one the first day. Keep in mind, supply is very tight still. But I got to handle it and will try to get back and use it in the next couple of weeks.

It is.

But! There is a but here. I haven’t stopped drooling over it since the prototype came out way back when. I will never chastise someone who likes new hand tools. Unfortunately for me, I’ve got their rabbet plane and their small plow. I would have to sell them to justify buying this.

Having finally secured a Stanley 45 (actually 2 in the same eBay bid), the Veritas will have to wait. And it is sweet.

Description says it will use Stanley 45 and Record 405 blades, so the 45 wouldn’t be a total loss. In fact, might be a nice one-two punch for complimentary joints (tongue and grove). I wonder if the bases for hollows and rounds will fit?

I pre-ordered one at Handworks back in May. Haven’t received it yet, but hopefully soon.

Plan to, Wayne. It felt pretty good in my hands at the show, and it sure was pretty. But playing at a show is nothing like actually putting it to use.

I pre ordered in Amana as well. ‘18’ was marked at the top of my order sheet… my position in line? This will be my first plow plane of any sort. I’ve been doing grooves and rabbets using a router plane or saw. I just ordered a few straight blades for now, and looking forward to adding the various detail blades when I have projects that can use them.

I would be interested to see how it works compared to the 45. If there is improvement in setup and adjust ability for example.

The claim was that all the knobs will make it more adjustable, or easier to adjust exactly as you want.

I’m not positive about that, but I haven’t found a nice complete 45, and I like the idea that they’ll be making all the blades available, so I decided that supporting them was a good idea.

Plus, SHINY!

Mine arrived yesterday. Still haven’t finished unboxing it, but I’m trying to take photos as I go so I can write it all up.

I’m jealous :) I figure I have another day or two to wait for west coast transit then. Weather is too hot for wood working here anyway, 110 the past few days.

The weather sucks. Perhaps 112 on Friday.

Mine came on Wednesday. Still stupid hot here, but I’ve managed to get some shop time in the early morning before it heats up. Here’s my review:

You’re way ahead of me, Andy. I unboxed mine, but I haven’t received anything but the included 1/4” blade yet, and set it aside until I get all the pieces-parts I ordered. Been busy preparing wood that will get ship-lapped with the combo plane and such. But I’ve got at least a couple days before I’ll be ready to start using mine for anything real.
