Project has 27” long legs, 1.75” x 1.75” on top. A 3 1/2” apron will be M&T to the leg. The leg will taper to 1” x 1” on two sides. The upper part of the leg is currently designed to be square for 4”. Is this a good distance or should it be 5”?

Doesn’t matter, imo. The taper will be pretty
subtle and the eye won’t be drawn to the
transition. I would probably go closer to 4”
than 5” personally.

The difference will be barely noticeable. Make a scaled drawing and see for yourself. Don’t obsess.
