Australia is taking a real kicking from el nino right now and Larry is not too far from Brisbane. The Brisbane River peaked at 4.46 meters early Thursday morning, below an expected peak of around 5.5 meters and lower than the 5.45 meter level seen in 1974 when floods resulted in devastation for Australia’s third-largest city. The death toll from this week’s floods now stands at 13, with many still missing. Authorities are warning that electricity now poses a significant safety risk and have also flagged up the possibility of an escalation of mosquito-borne diseases. I didn’t know where else to post this as there is no off topic forum. -- A mind, like a home, is furnished by its owner |
