I came across this jointer on Craigslist today.

This is the description:
This 6-inch Barton jointer was manufactured by Palmer D. weeks in Portland, Oregon. This is the type of police that lasts a lifetime, not like some junk made today. It’s powered by a Craftsman 1HP motor. Comes on stand pictured. This belonged to now deceased craftsman/handyman. Not an abused tool. Comes with a spare blade and the owners manual. Price is firm, all proceeds go to surviving widow.

NOTE: item is now in storage. I need 24 hour advance notice to retrieve and show to prospective buyers.

Does anyone know if this is a good deal?

It’ll get you started and may be all the
jointer you ever need. If the parts are
there and undamaged it’s a great deal, imo.

No picture so hard to tell if it’s worth it… here is another Barton 6” jointer in the wild:

Should have more than one knife though :)

Cheers,
Brad

Have you typed the name into google?
There is (now) actually quite a bit about these we know. If you check in over at owwm.org or vintagemachinery.org you’ll find lots.

Wouldn’t worry about it being a craftsman unless your looking for period specific. Otherwise, regular 56 frame motors are a dime a dozen.
