I need to order a link belt for a v drum sander that I am finishing up (finally) and have a question about the belt width measurement. The pulley size (width) is the same as my bandsaw so I assume the belt width will be the same for my sander. So the bandsaw belt measures 9/16”. The only belt that lee valley sells is 1/2” wide but grizzly has a 1/2” and a 5/8” link belts. So neither are 9/16” like the v belt. Will the 1/2” work? Thanks

If the pulleys on the BS are the same size as the ones on the drum sander then just measure the one on the bandsaw and use that size on the drum sander.

Link belt sizes are a little more flexible than v belts in my
experience switching them around from tool to tool. The
1/2” should be fine. I’ve never used the 5/8” and would
expect to find it only on real industrial machines.

The width of the belt is important. You do not want the belt running too low in the pulley. It will slip if to low and bottoms out. The belts need to run Flush with the top of the pulley for better performance. Running higher or lower will actually change the speed of the machine you are using ! I have attached a little “rough sketch” showing what I really mean. I had my own SEED cleaning equipment on my farm, so I did get to learn about belts and pulleys the “hard way !”
Personally I would use a V belt over a link belt anytime !
