Guys and gals, I’m looking for Adirondack chair plans that have a little bit deeper seat than normal and a back that reclines back more than the average adirondack chair does….an adjustable reclining back would be ideal! Also, if it’s foldable that would be a huge bonus, but not a requirement.

I’ve never made one of these before which is why I’m looking for scaleable, printable plans.

Also, what would be a good wood choice that is moderate in price? Not going to use any out the plastic woods, I personally despise the stuff. These will be almost permanently outdoors in the summer and stored indoors in the winter.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Take a look at these plans and see if they might suit your needs.

I built my Adirondack chairs (different plan) using old growth cypress. That material is hard to find and expensive in most locations but it is very good. Another choice where I live is white oak. It is extremely strong and also very rot resistant. Western Cedar and Eastern Red Cedar are rot resistant too but I don’t know about the strength of these species.

Thanks, I’ll check that out right now.

Any other suggestions?

Yes check out PlansInWood.com. Phil has done an awesome job designing a folding Adirondack and also has a Grandpa chair. I’ve built his two position beach chairs and they’re great and so is Phil to work with.

That Grandpa chair looks really good to me, especially looking at the linked photo of the two guys sitting on a porch.

Edit: I just linked to the picture. I hope the guy doesn’t mind me posting his picture.
