I have just started noticing roll-over add links in a lot of project and blog posts. These have been present in the past when not signed in but I was signed in at the time.
Is this a new fact of life on LJ? :-(

Hi Paul,
Yes, this is happening, so you might want to take a look at . . . http://lumberjocks.com/topics/32480
I am finding this particularly annoying, and I will repeat my initial comments here for members who may not have seen the posting at the link that I just mentioned.
=============================
Yes, I am also finding the adds to be frustrating. As an example, when I came to this page, I had to wait for all of the text adds to complete being filled in before I could scroll down the comments without the scroll function repeatedly stopping and starting. I’m using Firefox, and I am signed in, but the filling in of the info for the adds seems to take priority over the scrolling.
In addition, I am seeing 5 identical copies of “Shaker Cabinet Doors” in the right hand column. So, why do I have to wait for 4 extra repeated adds to load before I can scroll through the important items . . . the LJ’s comments . . . smoothly? I see this type of duplicated adds on most of the pages that I visit.
Of course the advertising supports LJ’s, but is each advertiser paying for all of the redundant duplications?
Am I the only one seeing these?
Have a great day. ;)

You do know that thread was from 6 years ago…

Most people have just settled on some type of ad blocker, or like me, just route the ad sites to the bit bucket.

Cheers,
Brad

Hi Brad,
Yes, it is an older thread, but recently, I have been finding the problems to be more frustrating than normal. While there does seem to be a difference, depending on whether or not someone is logged in, it would appear that a new viewer would not get the welcome that LJ’s has been known for. Yes, the adds pay for the site, but they shouldn’t have priority over the main purpose of this wonderful forum.
Am I off base on this?

Best regards,
John.

I have ads on the right side of my screen all the time and not just on LJ’s. It is like TV where you get blasted with commercials for longer than the program!!

Cricket had them removed for folks who were signed in. They just came back for me yesterday. I will send a message to cricket. It may be a glitch or it may be a change in practice.

I dont have any adds on page here in th UK, I’m on Firefox, but I have turned off the entire library of auto updtes on windows 10, to OFF.

This is how the world works today, adds, all adds, are the same as any other route to make the world wide web aware of ones existence, you can’t have it both ways I’m afraid, those who wear shoes made in slave labour hands should really not complain.

Is this what you’re talking about?

The link to ‘bathroom cabinets’ is either click bait by the OP or a LJs add on?

I just heard back from cricket. She sent a request in last night to have them removed. They are not supposed to be there when you are logged in. She said they should be gone this morning.

If you still see any, let me know. I tested from a few browsers and did not see them anymore.

I have an add blocker that also prevents most not all of the adds including YouTube and I got it per a suggestion on a thread here. Can’t remember when or where.

Yes we do appreciate your work Cricket!

Since the main issue is solved I don’t mind going off topic a bit … I don’t understand the mindset behind not updating your operating system to protect yourself from malicious software and prevent your computer being used to distribute spam or participate in denial of service attacks (what they call zombie computers). It’s true that occasionally an update temporarily messes with something else but you have no way of know what will and what won’t until the update is applied and in the meantime your computer is potentially more vulnerable to malicious software.
